Netflix Launches Internet Speed Testing Tool!

Netflix, the widely renowned streaming service for films and television series was recently rolled out in a lot of countries including Pakistan. Users have been pretty excited about it being finally available and the response has been pretty good. However, today Netflix has made a new announcement. Read below to find out more.

Netflix has made a move in facilitating people in keeping a check on their internet speeds as easy as pie. It has launched a new website fast.com. This is an incredibly simple website that lets you test your internet connection’s download speed by just visiting the website. This should help people who just want an ad free service to check internet speeds. We all have speedtest.net which is an excellent tool to monitor internet metrics but it needs a bit input from the user such as selecting the correct server, starting the speed testing process itself and is chock full of ads too. Hence those who have little or no knowledge of things like ping are or don’t know how to switch servers can get their download speeds in a hassle-free way.

However we should let readers know that fast.com is not an alternative to speedtest.net as it only shows download speed and not other metrics such as upload speeds, ping, jitter, latency or grade/rating of your ISP. Hence for technical analysis or advanced users speedtest.net is still the way to go.

Netflix says the only number consumers are generally concerned with is the download speed and “it is not a network engineer’s analysis and diagnostic suite. We want our members to have a simple, quick, commercial-free way to estimate the speed their ISP is providing.”

The result appears in a simple to read, and large number. There is even a link to speedtest.net so you can compare your fast.com test results. Even when checking slower connections, fast.com is good at making speed tests quick.
